The charges that Palestine Jewish units were left behind when the British retreated from Grece and the Middle East will prove baseless, Secretary of State for War Captain David Margesson stated in Commons today in reply to a question by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, who queried Margesson as to how many of the missing 1,541 Palestine soldiers, presumed prisoners of war, were left in Greece.
Wedgwood asked whether these Palestine units were left arms with which to defend themselves, whether they were led by British officers and if so whether the British officers remained with the troops. Margesson disclosed that he was investigating the facts and would communicate with Wedgwood as soon as possible. He added, however, that he “regretted that Wedgwood had seen fit to give publicity to suggestions which I am confident will prove entirely without foundation.”
