The Hobbs “concentration camp” bill which provided for the internment of deportable aliens who could not be returned to their country of origin was defeated in the House of Representatives on Tuesday by a vote of 167 to 141. The measure which had the support of the Department of Justice has been assailed from many sides as endangering the rights of all aliens, even those who are staunch supporters of the government.
