President Roosevelt, in an official statement, today said that he is “deeply concerned” over reports that aliens are being dismissed from their employment in American enterprises. He urged all employers in the country to adopt a “sane policy” regarding the employment of aliens and foreign-born citizens.

“This is a very serious matter,” President Roosevelt declared. “It is one thing to safeguard American industry, and particularly defense industry, against sabotage; but it is very much another to throw out of work honest and loyal people who, except for the accident of birth, are sincerely patriotic.”
