The Centenary of George Brandes, Danish-Jewish critic and author, who was born Feb. 4. 1842, was marked here last nigh in B.B.C. broadcasts in Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish. Extracts from Brandes’ work in which he condemned German aggression against Denmark in 1864 and violently attacked Prussian militarism were read.

Hinting at the recent attempts to introduce anti-Jewish laws in Denmark, the Free Danish broadcast stressed the fact that “in a free Denmark Brandes’ Jewish origin did not prevent him from reaching the high moral position of a professor and writer whom the whole Danish people read with admiration.”
