N.Y. Federation of Reform Synagogues Holds First Meeting, Affiliated with UAHC

The first meeting of the New York Federation of Reform Synagogues, the culmination of five years’ study and preparation by the New York Advisory Committee of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, was held here tonight at the Community House of Temple Emanu-El. Rabbinical and lay delegates from twenty-eight Reform synagogues in New York City, Westchester and Long Island attended.

The new group, which will act as the representative of the UAHC in the metropolitan area, was addressed by Adolph Rosenberg, chairman of the executive board of the Union, who stated that in a “God-inspired” new world, after the defeat of the Axis powers, religious groups will have a role in shaping the destiny of the nation and the world. The officers of the Federation are president, Frederick F. Greenman, 1st vice-president, Justice Meier Steinbrink, 2nd vice-president, Harry N. Wessel, president of West End Synagogue, 3rd vice-president, Mrs. Louis A. Rosett, president of the New York State Federation and vice-president of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, treasurer, Louis F. Rothschild, vice-president and treasurer of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, and secretary, Herbert Schwars.
