Emphasizing that a better world can and must be built after the war, Wendell L. Willkie yesterday urged the Jewish people to “keep the lights burning in the temples” they have built all over the world, in an address to a dinner at the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria, marking the hundreth anniversary of the Congregation Rodeph Sholom here.
Other speakers at the dinner included Governor Charles Poletti who reiterated his advocacy of a Jewish army; Borough President Edgar J. Nathan, Jr. of Manhatden, and Dr. James G. Heller. Mr. Poletti read excerpts from a message from President Roosevelt congratulating the congregation on its hundreth anniversary. Special ceremonies today marked the conclusion of the three-day celebration.
