Jews and Arabs in Palestine were asked today by Sir Harold MacMichael, High Commissioner for Palestine, to maintain cool and balanced wisdom in face of the great responsibility of maintaining peace in Palestine in the future. The appeal was made in the first 1943 radio broadcast by the High Commissioner.

At the same time the Friends of the Hebrew University in Palestine today held a meeting in Tel Aviv and adopted a resolution protesting against the activities of Dr. J. L. Magnes in behalf of the establishment of a bi-national state in Palestine. The meeting expressed regret over the fact that “the Hebrew University is headed by a person who is conducting propaganda which is contradictory to the spirit of the Yishuv and of the Jewish people.”

In his broadcast Sir Harold stated: “To those Arabs and Jews who are in a position to lead their people, I say: Face with cool, balanced wisdom the great responsibility that lies upon you for the maintenance of peace and good-will in the Palestine of the future, even if you incur the odium of the irresponsible in doing so.”
