Leaders of the Arab political parties who boycotted the inaugural session of the new Arab Higher Committee in Jerusalem on Wednesday, left for Cairo to challenge before the Arab League Council the bid of Jamal Husseini, extremist Arab leader and kinsman of the Mufti of Jerusalem, for leadership of Palestine Arabs.
They intend, it is understood, to protest to the council against Jamal Husseini’s alleged “dictatorial.” methods. They represent the National Defense, Palestine Arab Reform, Istaqlist (independence), National Bloc and Palestine youth parties.
Absence of these delegates from the Arab Higher Committee was a setback for Jamal Husseini who has been trying to weld the strife-torn organization into a body representative of all shades of Palestine Arab opinion. The chairmanship has been left vacant for the “rightful owner” the Mufti, Haj Amin El Husseini, who is now in French hands.
According to a Cairo report, Jamal Husseini told the League council yesterday that he regretted the failure of the Palestine Arabs to agree on composition of the Higher Committee, but said that elections would soon be held in order to make the committee more representative.
The council reiterated its approval of the boycott of “Zionist” products from Palestine, and drafted a plan for committees to be set up in every Arab country to enforce the ban.
