Middle Atlantic Region of JDC Formed; Hyman Stresses Relief Role of U.S. Jews

A Middle Atlantic Regional Organization of the Joint Distribution Committee was established here today at a meeting of 300 Jewish leaders from Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.

The meeting was addressed by Dr. Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-chairman of the JDC, and MNO. Paulette Opera, director of a home for Jewish children maintained of the JDC in Paris. Dr. Hyman stressed that the Jews of the U.S. will decide the ?site of the hundreds of thousands in Europe who are still homeless and starving. Meritz M. Gottlieb of Allentown, Pa., was elected chairman of the Middle Atlantic Region.
