A protest against activities of British Consular officials who are charged with using their official position to “sow discord between American Jews and their neighbors” has been lodged with the State Department by the American Jewish Conference. The organization drew attention to recent statements of two British consular officials.
In a letter signed by Louis Lipsky, chairman of the executive committee of the Conference, it was pointed out that Eric Carbell, British Consul General at Los Angeles, had, in the course of an address before a local church meeting, delivered an attack upon our government and groups of American citizens because of their expressions of sympathy for the persecuted Jews in Europe and Palestine. Carvell is also charged with characterizing Jews as “trouble makers.”
According to sworn statements received from Minneapolis, Joseph Robinson, British Consul in that city, is also charged with attacking the Jews. Robinson, the Conference letter stated, in the course of an address before the Y.W.C.A. at Minneapolis, Jan. 2, referred to the “irresponsible American press which is under the influence of the Zionists in this country.”
