Remains of Mrs. Brandeis Buried Alongside Those of Late Supreme Court Justice

The remains of Mrs. Alico Goldmark Brandeis, wife of the late Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, were today buried next to those of her husband at a ceremony on the grounds of the University of Louisville. Both were cremated after their deaths.

In a message marking the occasion, George Alpert, president of the board of trustees of the projected Brandeis University, said: “Louis D. Brandeis and his wife both had a consuming interest in education. Many years ago, the justice set forth the following concept as a basis for the growth of your institution: ‘To be great, a university must express the people whom it serves, and must express the people and the community at their best. The aim must be high and the vision broad; the goal seemingly attainable but beyond immediate reach.’ The trustees of Brandeis University have adopted this concept. In the years to come, we hope to grow in the manner prescribed by Justice Brandeis.”
