Police to Be Withdrawn from Tel Aviv Next Week; Nine Jews, Two Arabs Killed

All British police unite will be withdrawn from ###l Aviv area on December 15 and Jewish police will take over responsibility for ##intenance of order in an area containing nearly half the Jews in Palestine, it ### officially announced today.Meanwhile, the sound of gunfire was heard almost continuously in the Tel ### Jaffa area today. There has been no let-up for over 24 hours in the sporadic ####ements on this literally flaming front. At least five Jews were killed here ###g the day, bringing the day’s Jewish death toll to nine.The area in which Jewish police will take over next Monday includes the city ###el Aviv and its suburbe bounded by the towns of Potach Tikvah, Ramath Gan and ## Brak. No mention was made of the evacuation of British troops, many of whom ### been stationed in the battle area between Tel Aviv and Jaffa.

Two of five Jews killed on the Tel Aviv battle front were identified as ?m Shlugersky, 30, and Max Preger. One Jew was reported stabbed to death in an Arab section of Haifa. Haim ?an, a bus driver, was shot and seriously wounded while driving his vehicle in ?. A police communique says that British troops wounded two Arabs in an exchange ?ots in a Jewish section of the city. A British constable was killed by unknown ?en. An unidentified Jew was killed and a second seriously injured when their car which they were travelling encountered an Arab roadblock near Haifa and was set ##.

A quantity of ammunition was discovered by Jerusalem police in the Arab ?ashibi quarter. At least two Arabs were listed as dead during the day, one being ?d near the Manshieh police station between Tel Aviv and Jaffa.

Last night one Jew, Moshe Cipori, was killed during an attack on the Shapiro ?arter of Tel Aviv. During the battle Irgunists and Haganah men fought side by side ## the first time in two years. Cipori, 25, was an Irgunist. The battle started ?ortly after a huge public funeral for three Haganah leaders killed in or near the ?ity since Saturday.
