Gov. Thomas E. Dewey today issued a statement urging an international convention to prevent and punish “the moot heinous crime of genocide,” the mass destruction of racial, religious and national groups.
The statement, which was addressed to Dr. Everett R. Clinchy and James N. Rosenberg, president and chairman, respectively, of the Committee on Human Rights of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Said that “there can he no two opinions about this” and that “the mere thought is revolting to any decent man or woman.” Since the United Nations adopted a resolution declaring that such mass destruction was beyond the pale of law and calling for an international convention, measures should be adopted “without delay” to implement that resolution,” Gov. Dewey declared.
