French National Council Urges Government to Recognize Israel; Morocco Death Toll Rises

Foreign Affairs Commission of the French National Council, upper legislative “body, today adopted by a vote of 12 to zero, with three abstentions, a motion asking the French Government to recognize the state of Israel.

Meanwhile, a dispatch from French Morocco reported today that the number of Jews killed in Monday’s pogrom in Djerada has risen from 37 to 41. The same report said that the National Moroccan party, Sitiquial, issued a statement appealing to all Jews and Moslems in the country to “stay calm.” The Moslems were urged in this statement to heed the Sultan’s plea for restraint, while the Jews were advised not to permit themselves “to “be provoked “by Zionist propaganda.”
