Ninety percent of the Jews in the U.S. zone of Germany who reside in DP camps have applied for emigration to Israel, it was announced here today at the Israeli mission’s central registration bureau. The percentage of Jews living outside of the camps in the American zone wishing to emigrate to Israel is 85 percent, the announcement said. Registration for emigration to the Jewish state was completed over the week-end.

A monument honoring the memory of the 85 inmates of the Bernhausen concentration camp, whose remains were reinterred in a mass grave in Esslingen three years ago, was unveiled today. A gift of the Jewish community of Esslingen, the memorial bears the notation: “May the death of these 85 Jews of unknown nationality be a warning for humanity.”
