The Israeli Navy has carried the war to the Egyptians, the United Nations truce headquarters in Haifa announced tonight. A U.N. comnunique revealed that Israeli vessels yesterday pounded Egyptian shore installations in the Gaza area and added that the Jews dropped 16 bombs on Gaza from the air.

The communique reported that the Egyptians claimed that three Jewish aircraft attacked the El Arish airfield and the villages of khan Yunis and Frafah last night. U.N. observers said the Jews rained mortar shells on Faluja and bombed it from the air. The Egyptians also complained to the Security Council, via U.N. chief of staff Brig. Gen. William Riley, of Israeli “violations” in the Negev.

Although he did not confirm any details of the U.N. communiqe, an Israeli spokesman tonight expressed surprise that the U.N. report contained no mention of Egyptian air attacks on Israel today. He also warned that the issue of war or peace rested in the hands of Egypt. “If the Egyptians want peace they can have it,” he declared. “If they want war they will get it and it is up to them.”
