NEW YORK (Mar. 4)
A total of 18,397 pupils are now attending 120 Jewish all-day schools in the United States, it was announced today by Michael A. Stavitsky, president of the American Association for Jewish Education, on the basis of a study Just completed by the Association. More than 12,000 of them are enrolled in New York’s 66 schools; the remainder attend 53 schools located in 43 other cities.
This enrollment represents a 15 percent increase in registration over that of 1946, when the latest study on enrollment in all-day schools was made by the Association. Of the total all-day school enrollment, 13,263 are boys and 5,134 girls.
The Association will hold its annual meeting this year in conjunction with the National Council for Jewish Education and the National Federation of Hebrew Teachers at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Atlantic City, May 26-30, the announcement said.
