The Chief Rabbi of a tribe of Jewish cave-dwellers in Tripolitania arrived here today aboard the S.S. Eilat which brought 455 immigrants to Israel. Two hundred of the new arrivals were children brought here by the Youth Aliyah.
The cave dwelling rabbi, Hamos Sophir, said that members of his entire village would soon immigrate to Israel. Cave dwelling Jews in Tripolitania are concentrated in the Jebel Nefusa mountain range and are believed to be descendants of Jews who fled from Moorish pogroms in North Africa.
