Israeli and Transjordan representatives on the Armistice commission met at an “informal meeting” this afternoon to sign maps marking out the front lines in this area and to study the situation of the civilians who remain in the demilitarized Government House area.
Brig. Gen. William E. Riley attended the session. He is also expected to preside at next Sunday’s session of the armistice body. Last night he conferred with American Ambassador James G. McDonald, who came from Tel Aviv especially for this conference.
(Reuters reported today from Amman that the Transjordan Government officially announced it had agreed to an American proposal that all matters concerning a return to normal conditions in Jerusalem should be referred to a mixed armistice commission composed of two delegates from Transjordan and two from Israel under the chairmanship of Brig. General William E. Riley, U.N. chief of staff in Palestine.)
