Joseph Tunkel, Well-known Jewish Author and Humorist. Dies in New York

Joseph Tunkel, well-known Jewish humorist who wrote under the name of “Der Tunkeler,” died here today of a heart attack. He was 68 years old.

Author of numerous books of Jewish humor, he came to the United States from Poland in 1906 and became the editor of “Der Kibitzer,” an illustrated humorous weekly published in New York. Four years later he returned to Poland where he became a member of the editorial staff of the Jewish Daily Moment. Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, he again immigrated to the United States and joined the editorial staff of the Jewish Daily Forward.
