Board of Deputies. Jewish Veterans Prepare to Fight Anti-semitism in British Elections

Jewish war veterans and the Board of Deputies of British Jews are making preparations to cops with anti-Semitic propaganda which is expected to play an important part in the nationwide general elections next spring, it was learned here today.

The veterans’ decision was taken at the conclusion of a recent meeting of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen. Speakers at that parley voiced concern that fascist activity, which had fallen off following Britain’s withdrawal from Palestine, was again on the increase in London and other cities throughout the country. It is anticipated that fascist candidates, with no hope of election to Parliament, will use their candidacies as vehicles for anti-Jewish campaigns.

The Board of Deputies yesterday formed a special subcommittee to formulate policy for the forthcoming election insofar as Jewish matters are concerned. This development is not viewed as the formation of a “Jewish bloc.” Among other functions, this group will send observers to election meetings in constituencies where fascists are contesting the Parliamentary seat or where anti-Semitism is made an issue by the candidate of any party.
