Some 15 Catholic schools in Jaffa, Ramle, Haifa and Nazareth, as well as Jerusalem, have introduced the teaching of Hebrew in their curriculum in order to give their pupils an opportunity to learn the language of the majority of Israel’s citizens, Benjamin G. Browdy, acting president of the Zionist Organization of America, reported today. Some of the teachers of Hebrew in the Catholic schools are priests or nuns while others are Jews. The teaching of Hebrew, however, is not being made obligatory.
