Synagogue Council of America Expresses “grave Concern” over Current World Crisis

The executive committee of the Synagogue Council of America, in a statement “concerning the current international crisis,” yesterday declared that the Council, “in keeping with Jewish tradition, which has enjoined us to seek peace and pursue it,’ expresses its grave concern over the increased tempo of the armaments race in which our country is compelled to participate.”

The statement added: “While we cannot give our blessing to the research program directed towards the creation of the hydrogen bomb, we do not denounce the decision to explore such potentialities. We recognize that in the face of possible attack, we dare not insist upon weakening our defenses. As members of the Jewish faith, ## are prepared to join hands with all religious and civic groups in a common study ## the problems of peace.”
