The creation of a Council of Jewish Education was decided upon here last night at the closing session of the seven-day Jewish Cultural Conference. Representatives of the Jewish communities of many European countries, North Africa and Israel attended the parley, which was sponsored by the Jewish Agency.
The Education Council would consist of 18 members, with an executive of five. The members have not yet been chosen, but it was decided to establish the Council’s headquarters in Paris. The conference also adopted a resolution urging intensification of educational activities, in cooperation with existing educational institutions.
A request that 500 Hebrew teachers from Israel be sent to Britain was voiced at the conference by Jacob Halevy, British delegate. A proposal to institute a “Bible Month” in all Jewish communities outside Israel was submitted by Dr. Nathan Morris, of the office of education and culture of the World Zionist Organization, who also reported on the expansion of seminars, publication of Hebrew textbooks and other educational projects as achievements of his office.
