U.S. Ambassador James G. McDonald will definitely relinquish his post here this week, it was reliably reported today. Unite the nomination of his successor, the present Counselor of the Embassay, R. Forde, will act as charge d’affaires. However, it is understood that Mr. Forde will also be recalled when the new Ambassador assumes his post.

(In Washington, the State Department refused to comment on the report of Ambassador McDonald’s relinquishing his post. Such an announcement would come from the White House, as ambassadorial appointments and resignations are handled through the President, it was stated. A White House spokesman said that the White House has received nothing about Ambassador McDonald’s relinquishing his office.)
