1,000 Jewish Leaders from 44 States to Attend U.J.A. National Parley

A two-day national conference of the United Jewish Appeal, attended by about 1,000 Jewish leaders from communities in 44 states, will open at the Hotel Commodore here tomorrow. The first results of the U.J.A. nationwide special drive to raise $35,000,000 in cash during the last three months of this year will be announced at the parley.

William Rosenwald, national chairman of the special campaign who is also a national chairman of the U.J.A., today issued a statement declaring he was confident that the conference “would witness a great outpouring of cash in the roll call of the various communities” and that the total would come to many millions of dollars. He added that he based his expectation of a “sizeable and substantial” cash presentation on the fact that the emergency drive has been gaining momentum and has already enlisted the active participation of more than 3,000 communities.

The two-day parley, which will mark the mid-point of the drive, will be addressed by Sec. of Labor Maurice J. Tobin; Israel Ambassador Abba Eban; U.J.A. general chairman Edward M.W. Warburg; Jewish Agency chairman Dr. Nahum Goldmann; Mr. Rosenwald; U.J.A. executive vice-chairman Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz; and other American and Israeli leaders.
