President Truman today received a delegation of Jewish welfare board leaders who informed him of the National Jewish Welfare Board plans to meet the religious, welfare and morale needs of the estimated 200,000 Jews who will be in the U.S. armed forces by mid-1952. Irving Edison, president of the J.W.B., presented to the President a bound copy of “J.W.B. in Action” which described what the organization has done in the year since the Korean war.
The J.W.B. delegation came to the White House from the Pentagon where J.W.B. leaders spent the entire day being briefed by top military officers on the welfare, morale, and spiritual needs of the armed services and J.W.B.’s role in helping to meet them. They received a first-hand analysis of the world military situation and briefing on the information and education programs of the Department of Defense.
