Four Israeli Soldiers Killed in Arab Ambush Near Jerusalem

Download PDF for this date

Four Israeli soldiers were killed in an ambush laid by Arab Legionnaires northwest of Jerusalem, it was announced here last night.

United Nations observers have begun an on-the-scene investigation of the shooting. It is not yet certain whether the battle took place on Israeli or Jordan territory. Israeli authorities are checking on the possibilities that the Israeli patrol accidentally crossed the frontier while on a routine patrol yesterday morning.

A second communique announced that an Israeli police officer was killed near the Israel-Jordan border in central Israel. Again Arab Legionnaires were involved. An Israeli police detachment, rushing to the aid of the lone officer, was fired upon, but suffered no casualties.
