Israel’s cost of living index showed the greatest increase in the period from June 1950 to June 1952 of any of the countries covered, according to an analysis of cost of living indices in the J.N. monthly bulletin of statistics for September. The bulletin said:
“The most spectacular upsurge in living costs in the Middle East took place in Israel, where the average level of consumers’ prices jumped 20 percent in the year and a half after the Korean outbreak and an additional 40 percent since last December. The total rise between June 1950 and May 1952 amounted to 69 percent.”
