A party of 49 Israeli Arabs caught participating in military exercises this week-end were today remanded to jail for eight days by a magistrate in Acre.
The 49 were arrested by an Israeli military police patrol, whose leader testified in court that when the Arabs spied the patrol they attempted to hide. The police apparently spent several days watching the party, which includes men and boys ranging in age from 14 to 40, before arresting the Arabs.
In court today, the defendants’ attorney pleaded that they were all scouts and were engaging in an activity permitted under regulations issued by the Israeli military governor.
