All discussions between the Jewish Agency and the Israel Government on the Jewish Agency status legislation has been completed, Berl Locker, Agency co-chairman, today told a press conference here. He added that he expects that the Israel Parliament will pass the bill before the Zionist Actions Committee meets in plenary session in Jerusalem toward the end of next month.
Commenting on the Israel Cabinet “crisis,” Mr. Locker expressed the belief that there would be no national election at this time, and said that even if the Agudists remain outside the government and the Progressives and General Zionists fail to enter the coalition, the government will be able to continue governing with a “slight” majority. He said he believed that the Progressives have changed their minds about not entering a coalition government without the General Zionists.
The Agency leader said that one of the reasons for the introduction in Israel of a system of selective immigration from countries where the Jews were in no immediate danger was that such communities “were getting rid of their own social cases by dumping them on us.”
