“Archaeologists and American investors in Israel bonds are jointly responsible for opening the way to exploitation of valuable copper deposits at King Solomon’s Mines,” it was reported here by Dr. Nelson Glueck, noted archaeologist and president of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, upon his return this week-end from a month’s stay in Israel.
Dr. Glueck, discoverer of King Solomon’s Mines 20 years ago, said he had conferred with Israel officials on archaeological findings which may have direct bearing on that country’s attempts to exploit the mineral potential of the Negev desert. “New discoveries are constantly bolstering the belief in the enormous potential of the Negev,” he pointed out.
While in Israel, Dr. Glueck discussed plans with Premier David Ben Gurion to broaden cultural and spiritual interchange between the centers of Jewish life in the United States and Israel.
