Benjamin G. Browdy, former president of the Zionist Organization of American and member of the Jewish Agency executive in a statement issued in connection with the formation of the new coalition government in Israel, urged the Zionist Organization of America to rescind the resolution of identification with the General Zionists as adopted at the last ZOA convention on the ground that “it widens the rift between the two Zionist groups in Israel and tends to undermine the stability of the new coalition government.”
Mr. Browdy suggested that a special Z. O. A. convention be called at the earliest possible date “in order to afford an opportunity to the organized Zionist of this country to officially rescind the identification resolution adopted at the last Zionist Convention, and which, more than any other act in the course of many years, has tended to diminish the prestige as well as the membership of the Zionist Organization of America while causing renewed friction among Zionist in Israel.”
Dr. Irving Miller, president of the Zionist Organization of America, sent cables of congratulations on the formation of the new Israel Government coalition to Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and to Dr. Pevets Bernstein, president of the World Organization of General Zionists in Israel. Dr. Abba Hillel Silver cabled Dr. Bernsetin that he pleased that the General Zionists have jointed the new government. “This holds great promise for the future of Israel and the Zionist movement,” the cable said.
