The Israel Ministry of Agriculture was today considering the possibility of doubling the acreage under cultivation in the Negev to make up for drought damage to the wheat crop there, at the same time that heavy rains in northern Israel was saving the crops of that area.

The Ministry revealed that it was drafting plans to plant some 400,000 dunams (100,000 acres) of land in the Negev to make up for the loss of 200,000 dunams of wheat. Funds have already been set aside for this project, if it proves feasible.
