Plans to combat a series of anti-Semitic outbreaks in New York’s East Side, long a center of Jewish immigrant population, were discussed here yesterday at a neighborhood conference called by the local post of the Jewish War Veterans and attended by representatives of about 100 local religious, civic and educational groups.
A representative of the J.W.V. post reported on a number of incidents, including the beating by young hoodlums of Jewish school children, a rabbi and the two daughters of another rabbi. The local police captain said that arrests have been made in a number of cases. Congressman Arthur Klein, who addressed the parley, suggested a combination of police activity and education to combat the problem.
