A street in the city of Cordoba was yesterday named “State of Israel Street” in a ceremony attended by municipal officials, representatives of the provincial government, a delegation of Argentine Jewish leaders and Israel cultural attached Mordecal Avida.
During the ceremony, the participants–who included hundreds of Jewish and non-Jewish schoolchildren and teachers–observed a minute of silence in memory of Mme. Eva Peron and President Weizmann. Later, Mr. Avida met with the governor of the province and the rector of Cordoba University, where a chair in Hebrew already exists, to discuss a broadening of Hebrew cultural activities in line with the treaty recently signed between Israel and Argentina for a cultural interchange.
