BRITISH JEWS APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT ON ARAB-ISRAEL TENSION
A delegation from the Board of Deputies of British Jews today called on Minister of State Selwyn Lloyd to express the “deep anxiety” of British Jews over the increasing tension and bloodshed along the Israel-Jordan border. The delegation urged the British Government to use its good offices to improve the situation and suggested that such moves be made “through such effective instruments as existed to preserve the truce with a view to an eventual peace settlement.”
The Minister assured the deputation that their representations had been received sympathetically and that they were in accordance with the government’s policy to promote peace in the Middle East area. The delegation consisted of Dr. Abraham Cohen, president, and Barnett Janner, M. P., vice-president, of the Board of Deputies.
