The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Dr. G.J. van Heuven Goedhart, announced here today that the Ford Foundation had made an exception to its established policy of not engaging in further refugee work, and had decided on a final grant to his office to enable him to continue certain programs begun under the Foundation’s initial donation of $2,900,000 in September, 1952.

The new grant will be used particularly for the resettlement promotion program in overseas countries and for a number of youth programs. This new donation, amounting to $200,000, will be administered by the High Commissioner and the operational work will be undertaken by selected voluntary agencies, as with the preceding grant.
