Israel has had good success in supplementing the protein diet of its population in recent years through the technique of pond culture–the raising of fish, mostly carp–the UN Food and Agriculture Organization announced here yesterday. The area under carp cultivation increased from 15 hectares in 1939 to 3,400 hectares at the end of last year. Ponds, irrigation reservoirs and lakes are used to breed the rapidly multiplying carp.
