Israel Welcomes British Offer to Mediate Arab-israeli Talks

“We shall be pleased if any third party succeeds in bringing us together with representatives of any or all the Arab states for the purpose of direct negotiations, “an Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman declared here tonight in comment on a statement by the British Foreign Ministry that Minister of State Selwyn Lloyd had today offered the good offices of his government for this purpose.

Mr. Lloyd’s offer was made to the diplomatic representatives of eight Arab League states who met with him to receive his comments on their aide memoire of last week urging the West to take steps against Israel and to arm the Arabs and give them economic assistance. (See details on Page 1.)
