The Israel motorship “Dagan,” first of a fleet of 12 modern freighters and passenger vessels being built for Israel’s merchant marine arrived in New York, today on her maiden voyage. The 7, 000-ton-vessel carried a general cargo from Israel and Catania, Sicily. She will load general cargo here and in Baltimore before returning to Israel at the end of this month.
The “Dagan” is owned by the Zim-Israel Navigation Co., of Haifa, which operates regular passenger and freight services to four continents, Zim is represented in America by the American Israeli Shipping Company. The “Dagan” is commanded by Captain Yosef Golandski, 43, a veteran of many years at sea in the British and Israel merchant marines.
