Premier Moshe Sharett visited today the settlement of Nachal Oz, the border village opposite the Gaza strip, which was the scene of an Israel-Egyptian 90-minute battle the night before last. After touring the area, Mr. Sharett visited with the Israel soldiers wounded in the Egyptian attack, which began with the landmining of a patrol car and the shelling of Nachal Oz.
Yesterday, a United Nations truce observation team visited Nachal Oz and inspected the kibbutz on whose perimeter were still visible eleven craters formed by exploding Egyptian mortar shells. The UN officers also spoke to wounded Israelis, who described how they were pinned down by a crossfire from Egyptian posts at three different points along the border.
The continuation of the investigation by the UN prevented the holding of a meeting of the Israel-Egyptian Mixed Armistice Commission. It is expected that the date for the meeting will not be announced until after the arrival in Jerusalem today of Gan. E.L.M. Burns, Chief of Staff of the UN Truce Supervision Organization.
