Werner Krauss, the leading German actor of the Nazi era, has given up his attempts to perform in Zurich after strong protests impelled the management of the Schauspielhause, the city’s best known theatre, to refuse to make the house available to Krauss and his Hamburg troupe.

Civic figures in Zurich as well as leaders of the Jewish community had protested against the appearance in the city of Krauss, star of the anti-Semitic “Jew Suess” film produced by the Nazi Propaganda Ministry.
