“The American Federation of Labor has a deep concern of the future of Israel,” George Meany, AFL president said here tonight, addressing a testimonial dinner tendered by the Jewish labor Committee of Chicago to William A. Lee, president of the Chicago Federation of Labor.

Mr. Meany said that the Soviets were playing with the Arabs in siding with them so that tension could be continued in the Middle East in order that the Soviets might then be able to step in and take over Israel. He drew attention to the fact that the AFL had made a firm declaration on easing the tension in the Middle East and he asserted that the American Government should step in and bring about a solution of those tensions so that Israel might be secure. “No real peace in the Middle East is possible without Israel,” he said. He praised the Jewish Labor Committee for playing a leading role in the fight for human rights.
