The World ORT Union has spent some $18 million in various countries during the last decade, Dr. A. Syngalowski, president of the World ORT Union, announced here today on the eve of the opening of the 75th anniversary World Congress of the organization. At a press conference, Dr. Syngalowski said that the $18 million came in part from government subsidies in various countries and from Jewish organizations throughout the world, primarily from the Joint Distribution Committee.
He revealed that among the many messages received by the organization in advance of the congress were some from Jews in Eastern European countries. These messages, he said, “indicate that these Jews had not lost hope and the, they had not forgotten the ORT.”
