United Hias Service Opens Three-day Conference on Migration

The United Hias Service opened today its three-day annual conference here under the chairmanship of Louis Horowitz, director of the European service of the organization. The conference will explore ways of increasing resettlement opportunities for Jews of Europe and North Africa who have become displaced as a result of current or past political events, or who fear persecution.

Mr. Horowitz, in his opening address, reported that the resettlement rate of Jews in new countries has been increased by the United Hias Service almost 50 percent since the beginning of the year. The work of helping Jews to immigrate to South America has been strengthened and efforts will be continued–in cooperation with local Jewish communities to aid the migration of Jews to the United States, Canada, Australia and elsewhere, Mr. Horowitz said.
