Impressive services marked the celebration here yesterday of the centenary of the Gothenburg synagogue and the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Gothenburg Jewish community. Representatives of Jewish communities throughout Sweden participated in the ceremonies.

A cantata written in 1855 by the Czech composer, Joseph Czapek, to mark the opening of the synagogue, was sung by the synagogue choir, the first time it was performed since the synagogue’s 50th anniversary celebration. Memorial prayers were recited for those who died during the past century.
