The sum of $935,000 in cash was presented here yesterday to the United Jewish Appeal as a birthday gift to the people of Israel by 800 Jewish community leaders who attended a regional UJA conference.
The conference was addressed by Senator John J. Sparkman of Alabama, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and former U.S. delegate to the United Nations, who criticized the State Department’s policy of refusing arms to Israel. Another speaker at the conference was General Yigal Allon of Israel.
