Canadian Progressive-conservative Party Favors Selling Arms to Israel

Hohn Diefenbaker, leading Progressive Conservative party spokesman in the Canadian House of Commons, indicated in the House that his party is prepared to support arms shipments to Israel.

Mr. Diefenbaker, an important figure in his, the opposition party, said that Israel must be able to maintain its defensive strength. The point was raised in connection with Israel’s request for 20 Canadian Sabre Jet fighter planes. Previously, the Progressive-Conservatives had opposed any arms shipments to the Middle East.
