France continues to hold to her position that Israel is entitled to freedom of navigation through the Suez Canal, French Foreign Minister Christian Pineau is understood to have told Israel Ambassador Yaacov Tsur this morning.
Ambassador Tsur made the call in advance of his return to Jerusalem for consultations with his government. M. Pineau reportedly informed the Ambassador of his talks last night with Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden and British Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd.
The Ambassador met yesterday with the head of the French Foreign Ministry’s Levant Department and reviewed with him current Middle East developments.
